Minehead Twinning brings people together across Europe through friendship, culture and shared experiences.
Have you ever thought about hosting visitors from overseas, travelling abroad, or sharing local life and traditions with new friends? Through our long‑standing partnership with St Berthevin in Normandy, Minehead Twinning offers exactly that — building lasting international friendships through social visits, cultural exchange and shared events.
Minehead is formally twinned with St Berthevin, a welcoming town located approximately 100 miles from the St Malo ferry terminal. St Berthevin also maintains twinning links with:
● Wengen, Germany● Castello d’Erba, Italy● Cueti, Spain
Together with Minehead, these towns come together regularly to celebrate anniversaries, build international friendships, and take part in a wide range of cultural and special‑interest events.
An extract from the Twinning Charter signed in 1990 by the Mayors of both Towns:
Twinning is built around friendship, hospitality and shared experiences. Activities include:
● Social visits, with hosting and visiting on alternate years● Staying with welcoming host families● A full programme of social and cultural events, usually over a weekend● Involvement from local associations and clubs
Membership is open to adults aged 18+, and younger members are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Groups may also be invited or hosted for themed weekends, shared‑interest activities, or exchanges involving similar trades, professions or hobbies.
Our events and exchanges may include:
● Arts and crafts● Music and cultural performances● Friendly sporting competitions● Boules (Pétanque)● Or a mixture of activities depending on the visit
As is customary with twinning, any invitation extended is expected to be warmly reciprocated.
